Used oil filters are now legislated as hazardous waste and many jurisdictions have mandated directives that they be recycled or handled in a specific way to prevent harm to the environment. However the practice of draining filters before they are disposed of as garbage (destined for landfilling) is a practice still occurring in many areas and most find this practice as unacceptable. There can be between 3 and 8 ounces of oil trapped inside a “drained” filter. Over time, this container naturally breaks down, which leads to the oil leaching into the nearby groundwater. The potential harm to our environment is substantial as common knowledge dictates that one litre of oil has the potential to contaminate up to 1 million litres of water.



FilterKrush machineFilterKrush™ processes hazardous automotive and truck oil filters by converting them into two saleable commodities – (1) used oil that can be sold for re-refining or blending and (2) dense recyclable scrap metal briquettes. The briquette is acceptable feedstock for scrap metal smelters because of its density and the fact that the filter element remains within the briquette – carbon is a requirement for the melt.

FilterKrush™ is simple to use. Utilizing a touch screen integrated with a PLC, operators need only load filters into the hopper and push the start button. FilterKrush™ will cycle continuously until it senses the hopper is empty.

The core processor uses a patent pending high pressure toggle drive to compresses the filters into a dense briquette. Oil trapped in the filter is forced out and is pumped into a holding tank. In a typical hour of operation, FilterKrush™ will recover between 700 and 1,100 litres of used oil and up to 3,500 lbs of filter briquettes. FilterKrush™ is designed to suit the needs of a large capacity recycler with a capacity between 5,000 and 6,000 filters per hour.
